Hundreds of rowers, get set to put a show of their strength and team-work, to battle it out with 13 other 130 ft long boats, to win adulation and the coveted Nehru Trophy. It takes place on the second Saturday of August, every year. Another boating fiesta takes place on the holy river of Pamba is known as the Aranmula Boat carnival. It is a more traditional boat race that commences on the auspicious day of Thiruonam. Other boat races that take place are Champakulam Boat Race, Indira Gandhi Boat Race and Rajiv Gandhi Boat Race.
